gedit vs abiword.. because some times open office is overkill... I like gedit and abiword, they both work fine. gedit is a basic (text editor) with spell check. abiword is better suited for formatting documents and DRAFTING letters with pretty fonts and colors. Abiword has a built in spell-check. ( xfilewriter ) is part of xfe and is a ok text editor. xfilwriter opens very fast. but xfilewriter does not include a spell check. (OO) open office if you need a big suite of aps and feature but gedit, abiword ,and xfilewriter it your in a hurry and just need to get at your text documents fast.
