I can run windows XP in a virtbox set with 128MB of ram. I set the ram low becuase my host sytem can'y spair a lot of memory. My hosy is working of of 192MB of ram linux debian5 testing2009. I only use XP to play pinball a get around website like mslive that make you use ( IE). I downloaded windows7 beta and atemped to to test is out on my xp machine that has 172MB of ram. xp works on my old computer just not blazzing fast. But xp does a good job printing and such. Now on the other hand (windows7 is not as lucky.) :) widows7 will not boot on my xp computer. Windows7 is vista all over. ===================================== What if you went to but a car fron FORD motor company and all they would sell you is a oversized gas guzling SUV. gedit vs abiword.. because some times open office is overkill... I like gedit and abiword, they both work fine. gedit is a basic (text editor) with spell check. abiword is better suited for formatting documents and DRAFTING letters with pretty fonts and colors. Abiword has a built in spell-check. ( xfilewriter ) is part of xfe and is a ok text editor. xfilwriter opens very fast. but xfilewriter does not include a spell check. (OO) open office if you need a big suite of aps and feature but gedit, abiword ,and xfilewriter it your in a hurry and just need to get at your text documents fast.

VirtualBox ( ose ) vs virtualBox ( puel)

The short is the ( newest puel) was a lot slower than the (older ose ) that i'm using on my debian5 lenny/testing2009. ========================================== The (public user enterprize license) was to slow for my verry slow 900MHZ old pentium. but the ( open source edition ) strate from debians repose works good enough for me, even though the (ose) virtualBox does not come with (USB? path-thrue) storage support. (ose) -- no usb storage. (ose) (shared folder) -- yes it can. VirtualBox-ose will do a shared folder for host/and/guest thrue a net work type setup. THE SHARED FOLDER SETTING .. is some what odd to setup.
